OpenDCL 6 has now been formally released. In addition to many internal improvements, OpenDCL 6 adds support for the Bricscad platform on Windows. Use the Download link to get the current OpenDCL files.

End Users

If you are already using a pre-release build of OpenDCL 6 runtime, then you should upgrade immediately to the released build.

If you are still using an older runtime version, then you should not install the latest runtime version immediately. The upgrade path from OpenDCL 5 is designed to be seamless and problem-free for end users, however you should wait for developers to complete testing on the new runtime version before upgrading.

Developers

You should now be developing, testing, and supporting your application on the OpenDCL 6 runtime architecture.

You should make an effort to test and support your application on the Bricscad for Windows platform.

You should not assume end users will continue using the version of OpenDCL Runtime shipped with your application.

I expect a few new OpenDCL developers as a result of my presentation at the Bricsys developer conference. My presentation was followed by Coert van den Broek demonstrating his OpenDCL based CADTroon application running in Bricscad.
My presentation got off to a rocky start when the projector refused to work. I had to wing it for a while until the projector suddenly decided to work again. Some topics didn’t get covered as a result, but it all worked out in the end.
Bricscad support has been a major focus in OpenDCL 6, and I expect OpenDCL 6 to finally enter the beta phase when the next public Bricscad update is released. Bricsys recognizes the importance of OpenDCL, and I have every reason to believe that they will continue to support our work.

OpenDCL 5.0, the GUI development platform for AutoLISP programmers, was released today. OpenDCL 5 is the culmination of almost two years of development work since the release of OpenDCL 4.0 on July 30, 2007.

The major goals for OpenDCL 5 included a restructuring of the source code to support localization, completely rewritten documentation, and completion of the work started in OpenDCL 4 to clean up and modularize the code. These goals have been met, and OpenDCL 5.0 is now completely localized for both English and German languages, with Spanish, French, Russian, and Chinese language versions partially localized.

OpenDCL users reported over 200 bugs and submitted almost 50 feature requests since OpenDCL 4 was released. All but a small handful of the reported bugs were fixed, and almost half of the feature requests were implemented in OpenDCL 5. The result is a very stable, well tested, and feature rich upgrade with a promising future.

OpenDCL 5.1 is already in the pipeline, with support for AutoCAD 2010 planned for availability soon after AutoCAD 2010 ships. Beyond OpenDCL 5.1, the next major goals are support for Bricscad and the addition of support for third party .NET controls.
