After 6 months of work by many people, OpenDCL 4.0 is finally ready for primetime. The original ObjectDCL user interface remains largely intact, but there have been many architectural changes under the hood that will help propel OpenDCL into the future. The OpenDCL project represents the best efforts of an army of AutoCAD programmers hammering on the pre-release builds that have been released on a weekly basis, and the battle will continue as we add support for 64-bit platforms and localized language versions in the coming months.
The OpenDCL RC4 build has just been uploaded for everyone’s enjoyment. There where a few minor bug fixes, but the big news is it now has a built-in version checker. When you install OpenDCL Studio and load the runtime (ARX) module, it will automatically check to make sure it’s up-to-date & if it’s not, it will show you a balloon notification in the taskbar area. If you install the OpenDCL.runtime.msi it will not do this check automatically. You can do the check manually by calling the new function (dcl_UpdateCheck) or if you wish to enable the automatic version checking you can call the new function (dcl_SetAutoUpdateCheck <T/nil, otional>).
As you know the release candidate (RC1) build for OpenDCL was just uploaded a few days ago. When OpenDCL is officially released it will be known as version 4.0.
While the development of version 4.0 continues, Alpha testing on version 4.1 has already started. Version 4.1 will include 64-bit support for Acad2008 on a 64-bit OS.
Here’s a screen shot of OpenDCL 4.1 running on Acad2008-64 & Vista-64. (click on pic to enlarge)
The OpenDCL Help file has now been uploaded to the web site. Click the “Help File…” link on the right sidebar. Soon you’ll be able to translate this site & the help file to your preferred language.
OpenDCL is now on YouTube & Flickr.
Why you ask? Because everything else is.
Actually it easier to host photos & video with those services then trying to do it here.
Now you can click on the “Examples & Screen Shots” tab above to see most of the example projects that come with the OpenDCL Studio install package.
If you have any screen shots of your OpenDCL projects that you’d like to share, send them to “webmaster@opendcl.com” & I’ll upload them to a “User Projects” section on Flickr & this site.
On YouTube I’ll find some video demos, examples, & tutorials in the near future
Here’s a little sneak peak of the same examples again (just a place holder for now). LINK
